Eco-friendly, fun and retro.
Found this while I was doing some research on house parts last night.
Lehman's has been serving the Amish and Mennonite communities in Ohio since the 1950's and, oh!! What a cool collection of REALLY retro, off-the-grid products they offer. Everything from hand crank doorbells to butter churns to oil lamps to human-powered washing machines to steel lunch boxes to wooden chicken crates.

Very fun!

I've never ordered from there (yet!) so I can't review it. But I'm really enjoying the consideration of that doorbell...

We have a doorbell like that. Our baby loves to twist it when we enter the front! The bell is really loud, so you can hear it on the second floor.

We have a doorbell like that, only 103 years older, and it still works well. The only problem is that visitors don't get it and don't understand that it's a doorbell.

Lehman's is right down the road from where I grew up. It's a really neat place to visit whenever I go home to see my folks, although the only thing I've bought there was a handcrank ice cream.

When my grandmother passed away, one of the few things I told my dad I REALLY wanted from her house was a doorbell very much like that. One of my favorite childhood memories is walking up to her door and getting to ring the doorbell. It is now proudly installed on our front door and my daughter loves ringing that bell too!

I have one on my door too! But it's broken, and I haven't figured out how to fix it. Which leads to people at the door desparately spinning the little crank in the front while I sit on the couch 5 feet away, completely oblivious.
Anyone have any suggestions as to how to make the little clapper meet the bell again? It seems to work just once, upon subsequent rotations it is silent.

Hustonian- You might have to replace the (usually) square rod that connects the spinner to the clapper....over time they can become stripped and just spin in the socket. You can get replacement metal square rod at most hardware stores (you have to get like 3 feet, but you'll have plenty for replacement)
Good luck!
