Since renovating the family farmhouse will take long hours, our friend Kurt decided to transform the old milkhouse into a playhouse where Jenna and Jadyn can hang out while he hammers and saws.
I wish I had before photos, because the milkhouse looked NOTHING like this.
He has insulated the walls, put up tongue and groove pine boards, hung Japanese lantern shades from the ceiling over lightbulbs, and made a platform that could be used as a play area, fort or place to nap.
Most of the decorative touches can be found at World Market or a local hardware store. The curtains for the platform are shower curtains hanging from bamboo rods.
Aaron and Grace check out the playmats on the main part of the floor.
The casement windows open upwards with a simple pulley system. There is a window fan for warm days and there was a space heater keeping the building toasty warm while we were there.
Today the Dutch door is closed all of the way, but on summer days it lets the breeze inside.
Kurt built a little brick walkway outside (watch out for Mr. Toad!)...
...which winds around the side of the tiny house to a brick patio with a picnic table under a tree.
They have the option of hooking up running water later on and are still trying to sort out the electrical amps, but I was ready to move right in. Immediately.

I want one too! What a great spot. I do think they need to start a blog.

I love this. It is so sweet. Hmmm...I want to get my husband to build me one of these, Moroccan style, in our back yard.

We haven't gotten to the smoke alarm yet--but don't worry. J&A can attest that Kurt has thought of and is prepared for any and all emergencies and will be on it.
Thanks for the posting J--if you can coach us maybe we'll try it ourselves after all = ) (in other words, I'll write all about Kurt doing most of the work.)
