KBIS Booth Tour: Delta Faucet

Category: KBIS 2006

Delta went high tech and high concept at KBIS this year.

The centerpiece of the Delta booth was a gallery of high tech water gadgets for the home. It was pretty cool actually. They even trotted out some of their engineers to explain certain things, which was humorous--I always enjoy seeing engineers in suits.

First up, and most promising, was their interchangable faucet system. "Change your mind. Change your faucet." I could actually see some folks get in to this. (My mother-in-law squealed with delight when she heard about it.)

The system worked using a custom coupling that joined both the hot and cold water supply. It would be great if they released this as an open standard so there could be all kinds of wacky faucets available, but that would probably undermine their R&D investment.

Next up, a shower system that delivers larger water droplets that better retain heat. "Bigger Drops. Better shower experience."

Based on the display I couldn't explain to you how it works...nor could I explain how this is better than just turning up the hot water a bit on your existing faucet. Our sources tell us the Delta marketing folks are having a hard time explaining this one, too.

Third--"New concepts in water delivery." This included the obvious but very appealing self-watering plant.

More creative, they also had a boot scraper with a motion detector that applied a pressured water spray to help get mud off your shoes.

Very clever, although I can't help but think of all the water supply lines and drains necessary to pipe this stuff around your house.

All in all, Delta made a great statement with their booth and it stood out from alot of the other faucet manufacturers because of all the gadgetry.

The muddy-boot cleaner sounds like a great idea... even better would be a "dirt detector" that automatically locks the door if someone tries to enter with boots caked in mud.

An invention like that could probably save a few marriages!
