Invisible locks keep cabinets closed!
I was hanging out with my pal, Lisa, tonight in her charming Oak Park bungalow. And I was looking for a place to throw away the peel off top from the container of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream that I was dishing out. She motioned with her elbow as she rinsed off some dishes, "It's here under the sink."
So I grabbed the handle of the cabinet door under the sink and pulled. And pulled. And pulled. I was seriously questioning my motor skills and/or biceps. Lisa chuckled, reached for something on the sill, pressed it to the cabinet and it popped open.
"Whoops! Sorry. Magnets."
This thing is amazing! It's called a Tot Lok, and Lisa originally bought it when her cat, Larry, would not stay out of the kitchen cabinets. (We are convinced that Larry and Dave the Cat have opposable thumbs.)
I was enchanted! You couldn't see ANYTHING. Totally invisible! But it kept the door locked. I LOVED it. I wanted to play with it. But I tried to keep my cool and, hey, we had ice cream waiting.
I'm making sure to note it here so that I can find it again someday when I need it. I love this thing. It's like magic.
It reminds me of the story that Aaron tells me about his mom and the garage door opener. When he was little, his mom would hide the garage door opener and they would pull up to the door. Aaron would clap, and blow, and do everything he could to try to get the door to open. She would let him try and then she would do something (he doesn't remember what, exactly...maybe say a magic word?) and she would secretly press the garage door opener button.
Voila! The door would open.
You could amaze a lot of little kids with this thing. Because what is the fun of having these kids if you can't blow their minds once in awhile, hmmm? Gotta keep that upper hand :)

We totally need these! Our cats have taken to opening the bathroom cabinet and closet doors. Cats are sneaky little devils.

That is so cool! We ended up going with inset cabinet doors just so the cats couldn't get in them, but I'm still trying to decide what to do for a trash can. I bet I could use this to rig something up!
You made my day!

I've always thought that those would be cool, but my husband has never agreed to it. I think he's afraid we would lose the key and lock ourselves out of all the cabinets.
