Minneapolis Bungalows - Longfellow

Category: Other Bungalows

OK, so last weekend we made an extended weekend trip up to to the Twin Cities. While you might think we headed up to check out the Twin Cities Bungalow Kitchen Tour, the truth is that we went up to visit my grandparents. You may recall Grandpa Keith from prior posts... :-)

We had a great time, including lots of non-home improvement stuff--dinner, looking at old photos, catching up with friends (Hi Chris, Deb & Sophie! Hi Liz & Peter! Hey ryan!), and celebrating Grandpa K's (belated) birthday, among other things. We also had a chance to stay with Kari in the cute little place she bought earlier this year.

But the truth of the matter is we couldn't completely ignore the fact that we were in prime bungalow country. While our weekend was pretty packed with friends and family, we did drive a few neighborhood streets in the Longfellow neighborhood where Kari's new place is...

We especially enjoyed some of the more creative paint jobs, since we're thinking about our own exterior paint options these days.

Minneapolis is just so full of great bungalow architecture that we didn't even really try to tackle it. It really could merit a full-out bungalow voyeur weekend some day. (If you ever want to tackle it, check out the Twin Cities Bungalow site for ideas....)

Tru dat on the Twin Cities bungalows. We were in St. Paul for a wedding last year and at some point during our visit drove back and forth on Summit Ave. several times, drooling over the wonderful houses and wonderful setting.

Beautiful area, though being a good Pacific Northwesterner I have to say it could use more hills... :-)

Hello from Mpls! I have been following your site for almost a year now, after buying a bungalow last June. I stumbled across your site searching for ideas. After the great tribute, I felt compeled to comment. I agree that either walking or driving around town is the best way to get ideas, and see how others have brought out the charm and character of the bungalow. Thanks for the tips and great research you've done and shared on your site.

What adorable bungalows! The best part of traveling is checking out all the houses. :)

What a treat to see you highlight my home city! I have a friend who lives in Longfellow and I love to walk around his neighborhood enjoying the bungalows.

My partner and I just bought a bungalow-era house (though not quite a bungalow) in St. Paul, so I'll continue to look to your site for inspiration and tips!

Started years ago as a scrapbook, this collection of photos serves as inspiration as we restore our own bungalow. We hope you find it either useful or entertaining as well.
