While far from appropriate to the period our house was built, there's just something undeniably appealing about walls that function like white boards!
I've been to a few offices that have wall-to-wall white boards and it's just neat how flexible they are. You can draw big pictures and elaborate charts--very practical, but the truth is it just feels like being a kid again... If your seriously interested, you'll find the material at a variety of price points.
This stuff, combined with a wall of magnetic paint, could entertain me for days!
(Note: I found the information for this entry on Kelly's Cool Tools. If you don't already check his site out it often features neat solutions, including good house-related ones from time to time.)

We love this idea too...but instead of whiteboard we are going to use blackboard. They make a blackboard paint that we are planning to paint one of the walls in our daughters new playroom when we finish our basement (assuming we get to the basement before she stars high school).

Very neat. My daughter has a big whiteboard her granny got her for her birthday and she uses it all the time. I'll have to keep this in mind once we're in the new old house! Thanks.

One of the engineers that works at my boyfriend's company has an entire wall of whiteboard in his living room. He hosted a party and someone asked him about it. He said, "It's great for planning family vacations!"
