I was doing a little research and stumbled upon a whole different category of Old House journal.
In France!
This is a "before" picture that has our house beat by quite a few decades :)
Chez Robineau of Civay, France is renovating some lovely old buildings to make into holiday homes. And they are impressing the HECK out of me.
Perhaps it's the fact that, when they need wood, THEY BUY A TREE and have to shape the boards themselves. That is SO hardcore.
Another family is doing some renovation in Cambayrac, France. I thought my current kitchen was difficult to maneuver around in. But it is nothing compared to this:
These folks? Also impressive.
I think it is amazing and wonderful that the number of old house journals and blogs keeps growing ever larger. When we started out, I could only find Brickman House, This Decrepit Victorian House, Slumberland and Enon Hall.
Now, new sites pop up everyday! The cultural movement of nesting and working on houses has made the leap to the blog culture.
And that is a good thing. It keeps me out of people's backyards if I can look at their kitchens online :)

It has been neat to see the number of house sites grow and learn about the places and people involved. I wish we could invite everyone over for dinner (I also wish we had a finished dining room...).

I am one of the new bloggers. Inspired by your blog and others', I realized this was the best way to keep a record of our progress. It's also an excellent space to debate ideas with myself (and anyone else who stops in).

We are also relatively new, adding our home renovation stories to our website when we bought our house in June 2002. We have a fairly extensive site, but that section is hands down the most popular. We just love hearing from others who tell us their own renovation (horror) stories, and it seems we've all been initiated into a special club through true trials by fire.
Literally, in some cases. :)

So, Kristen and Brittney, not to ask you to advertise on J & A's page or anything, but what are the names of your websites? I love to see anything along this vein. Thanks

You guys were my inspiration too! I've always had an obsession with documenting (journaling, scrapbooking, etc) and am a web designer by trade, so blogging about our process just seemed natural to me. When I started researching old homes and renovation projects, your site came up time and time again. You do a great job keeping us informed and entertained - thanks for all the time and energy you put into this site. I know that it's hard to keep up when there is so much other work waiting to be done - but seeing everyone else make progress on their houses is a great motivator for me. It feels like some cool secret club, minus the complicated handshake.

We don't mind at ALL when folks post their webpages in the comments.
Mindy, Brittney & Kristin are all on the HIP blog roll as follows:
Fixer Upper
The Hallway
1902 Victorian
Online journals are a wonderful way to track progress (so you don't sink into the "we aren't getting anywhere" downward spiral.) They also make you laugh about things you would normally get frustrated with. Now, when something falls off the house (after the initial despair), someone yells "Grab the camera!" Eventually, it becomes funny. Helps you to keep everything in perspective.
