Craftmanship of our own

Category: Accents

Sometimes I get so engrossed in power tools and fixing things, that I forget my real love of being absorbed in crafting the details.

We haven't been able to tear ourselves away from getting all of the "major systems" done and allow ourselves to concentrate on the smaller, sweet details of life.

Yet.

But perhaps soon. When the snow flies, we may have time to do some of our crafting. That is why I love walking through one of my favorite shops, The Paper Source, and dreaming. (They sell so much more than they show here online.)

I made a papered step stool & varnished a few year's ago for Parker's house. Other friends have made lamps, and wreaths, and journals, and sculpted bowls of paper. I would like to try all of these things.

I was re-inspired when I read on Clark Creek's site that Scott was going to try and create some of his own tiles for his house.

(Aaron and I talked about doing this when we resurfaced the fireplace! But Scott knows what he is doing so we would need to get a little better first. If we did it, we would just be painting the tiles while Scott will actually be shaping his.)

I've often wished to be part of an Arts & Crafts era guild...this house might be the closest I get to that! (This is by far the most talented guild I've come across in the modern day...Guild.com

Other fun sites online if you're inspired to "make your own":

Soapcrafters

Axner's Pottery Supplies

Traditional Woodworker: Carving Tools

Rattan and Basket Weaving

And the folks at Little White Bungalow are making candles...very cool. They are better at multi-tasking than I am...replacing a furnace AND making candles. I can only do one at a time :(

p.s. That reminds me. I have an idea for making a sconce. Anyone know where I can get the actual sconce light?

Started years ago as a scrapbook, this collection of photos serves as inspiration as we restore our own bungalow. We hope you find it either useful or entertaining as well.
