Eloise's Kitchen

Category: Kitchen

Our neighbor Eloise was lauded in the local paper for her kitchen recently. It is a pretty cool kitchen! This picture doesn't even begin to do it justice. But it's a start.

We love Eloise's kitchen. It is so cozy and so warm. We were honored to get to sit in her kitchen when my parents were in town, shortly after we bought our house. Eloise and LeRoy's whole house is a wonderful source of inspiration.

And, these days, when so many kitchens look the same and often out of character with the rest of house, THIS kitchen fits its house.

I'll have to post graphics of the article because it is so late, I'm falling asleep over my keyboard and can't retype it all. But it is a GREAT article.

They also recycled some tile for the backsplash, recycled the cabinet boxes and did something very clever with a wall and the refridgerator.

Maybe she'll hop on line and explain the fridge thing!!! (Hint, hint, EN!) Many old house owners struggle with the space in their small kitchens.

One of my favorite quotes? :)

"This is a humble North Park home...we don't need granite."

Amen! Go, Eloise!

Eloise asked me what I liked about her fridge :) Somehow, she and LeRoy actually set the fridge into a wall of the kitchen so that it didn't "jut out" too much into the kitchen space. And it didn't have an awful effect (that I could see) on the room that gave up some of the space! I was curious as to the specifics of how they did it, how they chose the wall that they did, if the wall behind is as thick as the other walls, etc...

I don't even know if she bought a more shallow fridge or just used the one that was there. I think I was just blown away by the beautiful, soft colors of the space when I visited and didn't take notes.

It is a great space saver for these small old house kitchens!

Our old refrigerator was recessed, too, and was a shallow one with a bottom freezer. That's what we wanted again, and after much research we found one model like that(an Amana) that exactly fit the space, but we had to remove all of the old tile around it to squeeze it in. But as the article says, we needed some of that tile to fill in the backsplash where the old wall oven had been. Anyhow, thanks, Jeanne, for posting the article!

Cool kitchen! Thanks for sharing, jm. We're planning to do a revamp of our kitchen soon and need all the inspiration we can get!
