We are geeks of the most impossible kind...we are house geeks. We have an unashamed jones for old houses which cannot be explained.
And we have access to technology! (I think that is the worst part really.)
So, driving to and from my parents' place over Labor Day Weekend, we couldn't resist pulling over to the side of the road in tiny Vinton, Virginia (just outside of Roanoke) and taking pictures of random bungalows.
Some were less muddled than others. You could see the bungalow lineage in so many houses there. And they were in Salem. And Roanoke. And they were in West Virginia too. Same goes for Indiana--south and north. (Confession: we flew through Kentucky on the highway, though it is a gorgeous state. We'd like to explore it more someday.)
P.S. Happy Birthday, Mom!

There are so many old neighborhoods around here, a few of which developed at the right time to have a good stock of those neat little houses. We used to live in this house back before everything.
