This light fixture is a bit old-school and very charming. It's fun because it has lots of character and a pretty strong retro design (probably dating back to the 30's?)
It actually might be a little too art deco for our house. Some of our own lighting does have a deco look to it, but it was definitely added well after the house was originally built. The deco movement started influencing bungalow decor in the late 1920s, whereas our bungalow was built in 1914.
Original lighting like this is definitely fun.

Where did your sister get the light fixture? I love all things art deco and wouldn't mind adding
some touches to our 1927 bungalow.

We have just finished our 12-year remodel of a 1910 house. Showed it on neighborhood Home Tour of March 2001. House had NO electricity, nor plumbing when it was built. The light fixtures were pretty much limited to 1 dangling bulb per room and 1 outlet per room (whether they were needed or not.) Later, somebody added more outlets, some in the middle of the 12" baseboards, so we had to have new ones milled from reclaimed lumber.
Here is my philosophy on Deco fixtures in a Craftsman era house: there weren't any when it was built. When they finally added electricity, who knows what they would have used? If they did it in the 1930's, they probably used Art Deco. Hey, that makes you correct!
